2020-2021 End of Year Report

The Black Methodists for Renewal,   Texas Annual Conference,  Houston Area Local Caucus’ vision is a renewed,  transformed, unified body of Christ.


We are on a mission in the world to raise prophetic and spiritual leaders. We want those leaders to be advocates for the unique needs of Black people in the United Methodist Church.


BMCR values include sharing the legacy of black people, programs, and events. BMCR serves within the Wesleyan heritage of vital piety and social holiness. We are committed to developing spiritual and prophetic leaders. We want to build a positive and supportive relationship within the United Methodist connection for inclusiveness and justice.


In the last (12) twelve months, we have sought to:



  • Educate during the Annual Martin Luther King Breakfast

  • Hosted  the “Sankofa’ Observance,

  • Forum for the ‘Black Church Dialogue ‘

  • Mental Health Forum in the Black Community

  • Participated in SMU Extension Program Houston Lay School

  • Sponsored ‘Mock Interviews’  for BOD Ordinands

  • Prepared a Virtual Children’s Walk Through Gallery


Connect with our Texas Annual Conference, SCJ. National

  • Circulated ‘Call For Action’-National BMCR

  • Participated  in the SCJ BMCR Conference

  • Participated  in the National BMCR Conference

  • Published and provided access to Bishop Jones blogs, articles


Pray with our Community

  • Provide  4th Friday of each month, ‘A Virtual Day of  Prayer.’



Love Our Community

  • Participated  in a Restaurant Program for Food Insecurities during COVID

    • Provided “Words of Encouragement" to our membership

    • Mailed out ‘Signature Teacakes’ to Board Members


Worship with Our Community

  • Virtual ‘Seven Last Words’ Worship


Honor Our Community

  • Honored (47) High School Graduates with Yard Signs in (12) area churches

  • Provided  financial support for Church Anniversary Souvenir Booklet

  • Welcome our new Central South District Superintendent to the TAC

  • Purchased Gift Cards for our 2020 Retirees

  • Provided ‘Gift Certificate of Achievements’ to newly ordained clergy

  • Continued to support small black churches with financial support for minor building repairs


Respect our Deceased

  • Provided (5)‘Remembrance Resolutions’ to the families of our deceased loved ones


Reach Out to our community

  • Sponsored a (90) day Membership Drive


Provide Reprints from (25) Publication(s)

  • From United Methodist News, Cross Connection and,  the General Agency



The BMCR TAC Houston Area Local Caucus has had the privilege of serving our community in a very productive manner. The Board sincerely appreciates the support and partnership extended by Bishop Scott Jones and the Texas Annual Conference staff in our quest to serve our community.
